Best Defense Tool: "Hike-n-Strike Walking Cane."

By Great Wall Defense an Online  Personal Defense Store

Many wilderness hikers need additional gear not required for city walking, but it can become quite burdensome carrying a heavy pack of items. One useful item that that is unlikely to come to mind is the Hike-n-Strike Walking Cane. Not only can it help you to navigate steep paths, but it can also be used for self-defense and as a handy flashlight in low-light conditions. Hikers will find it extremely useful, but it can also be used for camping or for everyday walks around your city.

Many hikers find they need some additional support when walking up or down steep hills. Using a walking stick or cane can provide a safe means of keeping yourself balanced, and fight off the force of gravity that comes with every hike or climb. That extra 3rd point of traction can help you to go places you’d normally not feel confident without the cane. The cane can also provide self-defense against animals who may threaten you on your path. There are many great features built into the Hike-n-Strike walking cane.

Should you need to use your walking cane as a stun gun, it will deliver 950,000 volts/4.6 milliamps to your enemy. It has spike electrodes for safety, and is incorporated into the handle in case you need to activate it.

The cane also has a built-in flashlight, so there’s no need to pack an additional one in your backpack. The flashlight has a removable cap that also covers this stun device when not in use.

It’s easy to grip your cane. The top has a texturized and rubberized grip, so even if your hands get moist, or if it’s raining out, you can still securely hold onto it. This will give you the support you need as you trek across your wilderness path.

The cane is also expandable, so it can be used by people of varying heights. When it’s at its closed length it is 29 inches, but can be extended out to 56 inches. There is also a wrist strap, so if you don’t need your cane for an easy part of the path, you can easily carry it, or clip it onto your backpack.

The cane has some other useful features. There’s also a removable reflective band on the staff. You can either leave it attached for good visibility at night, or you can wrap it around your arm. This is useful if your last part of the journey is getting past a road with vehicles. The reflective strap and the flashlight will keep yourself visible to drivers.

The stun gun/flashlight portion of the walking cane takes three lithium CR123A batteries, and weighs 18 ounces. You’ll also receive an extra end cap, should you accidentally lose the first one. There is a two-year warranty.

The Hike-n-Strike walking cane would make the perfect gift for teenagers, women, and seniors who enjoy heading into the wilderness by themselves. It can provide additional peace-of-mind for loved ones, and is effective should it be needed for self-defense.

A False Sense of Security

Article by In Style Stunzzz by Great Wall Defense

Dangers of Having a False Sense of Security

Sometimes having a self defense class or two under your belt can give you a flase sense of personal security. I say this because unless one has practiced certain moves over and over and over again, there is always the possibility of not having the kind of control needed to defend yourself against a skilled attacker. Meaning if you are not fighting skillfully in an almost automatic mode, you could over estimate yourself and do something foolish or take chances you would not normally even consider. A desperate criminal that is trying to rob you or sexually assault a female, has the confidence of knowing that they have overcome obstacles and likely gotten away with this kind of attack before. So how do you even the playing field?

In order to be successful and survive an attack or robbery attempt, you need an equalizer to even things up. One such equalizer that is inexpensive, quite effective, and easy to use is Pepper Spray. These little personal defense weapons are non-lethal, yet will take a perpetrator down in a hurry, while you, the intended victim get safely away. Pepper Spray is exactly that, spray derived from oleo resin capsicum (very hot) pepper mixed together with a propellant under pressure that forces the fine grained pepper into the face and eyes of the person who is trying to harm or even kill you. If used properly you can disable an attacker immediately causing them to drop to the ground with their eyes shut and in a great deal of pain. They will most certainly forget all about you and go to whatever mode they can in order to make the pain and labored breathing cease. The pain and other effects will soon disappear with little to no lasting harm to the person. You on the other hand will be long gone. A much better outcome than if you would not have carried and used this product on them.

The point being, you need to have a sure-fire solution that allows you to keep a safe distance from an attacker, thus limiting the opportunity for them to interact closely with, and harm you. These Pepper Defense Products really do the trick to make you personally more secure in a hurry. You want to remember, that like anything else, there are "quality" differences even in the world of pepper spray. An excellent list of choices would be companies like MACEPEPPER SHOT, and WILDFIRE brands based on their popularity as top sellers. Because they are the proven brands that sell in large quantities all over this country, they are obliged to maintain their superior quality to sustain future sales. That they do very well. They all boast fine grain, more effective, and faster acting HOTTER pepper ingredients. MACE in particular, has been around for many years and are the makers of many forms of defensive sprays, even getting into many other forms of personal protection products in recent times.

So for all of you who understandably have a false sense of security perhaps because you have some great Kung Fu, Karate, Wing Chun, or Ju Jitsu moves, save them for an exercising session. If you are just dying to try them out on someone in the real world; don’t waste your time or energy. Why take chances and ruin and good set of clothes grapping and interacting violently with some street vermin on the ground. Just take aim and spray away and you will likely be right on time to your next appointment or location that you were heading for before this guy came along. In Style Stunzzz by Great Wall Defense

How to Avoid Being Robbed

Article by Great Wall Defense an Online  Personal Defense Store

Robbery can be a very serious crime, more serious than you may have imagined in times past. These days, there is always the possibility that a robbery will involve a weapon. Add to that, the potential for injury, the possibility of great material loss, serious bodily injury, sexual assault, and even death. Some robberies can even involve multiple assailants in the form of gang efforts. It would be wise to think about these possibilities before you are targeted and taken by surprise---when its is too late. Rather it would be wise to ponder over the possibilities and plan ahead or even buy a personal defense weapon like a Taser or a Stun Gun in case you have no choice except to fight back. These kinds of considerations ahead of time lessen your chances of harm. It is better to have prevention in mind before being assaulted or robbed rather than dealing with the sad consequences after the fact.

Here are four tips to help you to avoid being robbed, or injured if you are, so that the potential criminal decides to find another target, or better, just gives up.

1. Never brag about having a large amount of cash, valuables, or jewelry on your person. This is applicable to when you’re in the bar, at work, school, or on a vacation. When you’re travelling internationally, criminals can target the tourists first, as they’re less likely to report the crime. It’s like the tourists always seem to have a large target painted on their backs. Keep money split up into different wallets and bags (even consider buying a Hidden Stash Safe), in this way, if you are robbed, you will still have some cash left to enjoy the remaining vacation.

2. Always think ahead. Keep your keys ready. Don’t be seen as fumbling around in your purse or pockets for your keys, and don’t carry more items than you can handle. Be especially vigilant at night time. Try to carry a Flashlight Stun Gun such as the Lipstick Stun Gun that will light to find your way, or it doubles as a quick response weapon in case someone is approaching from behind you. Ideally though, if you can arrange a car ride with a relative or a close friend—then do so. Do your heaviest grocery shopping only during the daylight hours. Use Google Maps to plan your route in advance, and don’t be seen carrying a map around. Give the impression that you know exactly where you are going.

3. Should you still be confronted by a robber, even if you haven’t been carrying a purse, drop your wallet, cellphone and laptop case on the ground and run. They’ll be too busy collecting the loot and getting away, and won’t be worried about you. Most robbers only want the money for their next drug purchase, but if they also have other bad intentions, it’s best to get away fast. You can always replace your credit cards and electronic devices, but it’s hard to heal up mentally from an assault.

4. Remember that if you attempt to resist a robbery that involves only material possessions, there is always the potential for being hurt. You never know when the perpetrator may be carrying a knife or a gun. Besides, if you're concerned about losing possessions, then do not wear showy displays of expensive jewelry that invite robbery. If you normally carry large amounts of money with you in your wallet, then stash the big bills in your pocket or somewhere not so obvious as your wallet. If you have been injured during a robbery, lay motionless. You don’t want them to panic and injure you further. Let them grab the loot and run.

Robbery is often an opportunistic crime, and no matter how much you try to avoid it, there’s that desperate drug user who needs $5 for their next drug hit. Do your best to avoid robbers and you’ll keep yourself safe, secure, and alive to see another day.

Preventing Sexual Assault

By Great Wall Defense an Online  Personal Defense Store

No matter how many laws there are on the books or how many time Joe Biden announces the fact that sexual assault is a crime (everyone knows that), a woman must always be extra cautious and on guard. To someone that is determined to commit sexual assault, the laws on the books and announcements by the Vice President make it far more enticing to those doing the crime. Prevention requires much more than self-defense classes and scare tactics to remind us how these things happen on TV and on the movie screen. A woman needs practical reminders to avoid attacks around the home, at school, or even at work on the job. These sexual predators are active opportunists who if given the chance will try to take advantage of whatever weakness and given the right moment in time, make a victim out of you too. Personal Safety takes effort and insight from those who have not been as well prepared as you will be. Though it may involve some extra effort on your part, it is worthwhile, even critical to consider and examine your personal safety level based on these tips. Here are a few.

Here are some tips to help you to stay safer around the places you occupy, and what to do if things go wrong.

1. When a female's name is listed (by itself) in a public place such as on your mailbox compartment or a master listing in front of an apartment or condo community. This announces to the world that a single woman lives there, and most likely alone. If your name must be displayed in public, such as on community mailboxes, intercom listings, or telephone listings, opt to use your initials instead. You may even wish to go so far as to have mail and bills delivered with only your first initial and your last name. You might even opt for a post office box.

2. Get your things together and organized before you leave a building, so you’re not perceived by the criminal element as struggling with your purse, packages, or grocery bags. Have your keys out and ready before you reach your car when you’re in a lonely or dark parking garage. For example, if you’re doing laundry away from home and you are going to be alone, do what you have to do to get things going, then leave. If you must attend to your things, purchase a high decibel personal alarm or a good quality pepper spray in case you are confronted. But if you decide to leave the premises to avoid this scenario, take the opportunity to find a safe haven (Starbuck's, library, a grocery store, etc.) nearby while the clothes are being washed or dried. Then after some time has passed, simply return to move things along or if you are done, just pick up and go home. It is far better to risk your clothes being stolen than risking your life. Don’t linger anywhere for long periods of time in situations that of necessity cause you to be there all alone. Don't be a sitting duck.

3. Never let anyone know that you are all alone, even if you’re on the telephone, at the door, nor alluding to it to anyone while on the town day or night.store at night. Feel free to call out to an imaginary “Fred and or John” telling them that you’re on your way, or do the same during a fake phone call. Perhaps adding a determined statement telling them them how you see them waiting for you outside. If you’re walking down the street, wave at the windows of your imaginary friends. When you're home alone, never open your door to anyone unless it’s someone you know really well, or if it's a scheduled service call that you have been expecting. Even then, use good judgment and discernment if anything seems odd to you. Better safe than sorry they say.

4. Don’t let people know that you had to take public transit to get to a class, an event, or other outing. If you do, you are setting yourself up for someone to notice a pattern of behavior. Once they know that they can lay in wait for you in possibly some places where you are vulnerable. It is never wise to accept a ride home from someone you have just met. Just say no thanks, and then proceed to tell them that someone is waiting for you. Remember that many women that let their guard down in times past, never reached home at all because of a bad decision on their part.

5. If you decide to physically resist an assault, it will be your one goal to physically incapacitate your attacker long enough for you to run off and seek help. This is not the time to seek revenge or take photos.  Keep in mind that you can and will be injured while you do this, and you’ll have to cause injury to the person attacking you, but it’s better than the other option.

6. If you have been the victim of a sexual assault, contact the police immediately. It can be tempting to discard clothing, bathe, or toss out evidence but don’t, because leaving yourself with evidence in tote can lead to arrest and prosecution of the suspect. Don’t even consider dealing with this yourself—the authorities can help you with counseling services, and you may need to be looked at and treated for possible diseases. Remember that it’s not your fault.

It’s very important for you to take these reminders seriously and not rely solely on common sense to provide all the help. Learn from others and get yourself some kind of non-lethal defense weapon to help you get away should someone grab or try to trap you.  Remember that criminals attack during the best opportunity which is when you are caught off guard or in a compromising situation. Don’t give them that opportunity, and you’ll keep yourself safe. Personal defense is a personal matter so do it for you.

Safety at the ATM Machine

By Great Wall Defense an Online  Personal Defense Store

Despite security cameras that are focused on bank machines (ATMs) and the crowds of people that walk past them on the street, people still get robbed while transacting business at the bank machine. Since these crimes often involve guns and other kinds of violence, you may find yourself being forced at gunpoint to not only remove your daily limit from your account, they may take your car, your cash on hand, and any other valuables you may possess. Because they do not want to go to jail, they may want even more from you, even your life. So needless to say, it’s becoming increasingly more important to use extra diligence as to using caution around bank ATM machines. It’s not just your money that is at risk, but it could mean your life, and the life your children that could be at risk.

Here are a few starter tips that will prove helpful to your personal safety level when you are using the ATM machine.

1. Be on the watch and know your surroundings. When you intend to use the machine, before you get out to use the ATM, watch people who are in the area or are hanging around the perimeter of the bank. When you decide to use it and things look safe, be mindful of any persons coming up behind and around you. If there are safety mirrors installed, glance in them from time to time to see who is approaching or that is now waiting behind you. If you’re really worried, you can cancel your transaction and announce loudly, “that you’re overdrawn”, then walk away.

2. Avoid using the bank machine at night, because robbers will be seeking people who are alone; especially when visibility is compromised. It can be tempting to grab some extra cash for the night club or bar, but use your debit card or your credit card at these venues instead of going for cash. While in the bar, do not accept anyone’s offer to HELP and PROTECT you by walking you to the ATM machine for more cash. If you run out of money, perhaps that is a subtle clue that it’s time to go home, rather than to continue drinking and perhaps lose coherence or control.

3. If there are suspicious people lingering near the machine before you even attempt to approach, just keep on walking. These people may very well be watching the ATM machines for an opportune moment to rob and or assault someone. Leave the area and then report your suspicions to the police when you’re in a safe public location away from the ATM. In this way, they can send a patrol by to check out the situation; even chasing them away for loitering. It could potentially save you or even someone else from being the victim of a serious crime.

4. Keep your wallet hidden away when you are at the ATM machine. Have your bank card out and ready to go. Keep your purse wrapped around your body to avoid a purse snatching. When the machine dispenses your cash, quickly tuck it into your jacket or pants pocket. You can always put it into your wallet when you’re in a store or a safer location. At the ATM machine or in the immediate area, please do not stop and count your cash. The bank machines have a high margin of accuracy. Remember that you can always count your cash later, and then notify the bank if there is a discrepancy at the next available opportunity.

5. Think ahead of the game and go online to see if there is a bank machine inside a bank near your workplace where you can conveniently and safely visit the machine during daylight hours. It will always be safer to visit a bank machine when the bank is open and busy conducting business.

Almost everyone is nervous when they use an outdoor banking machine, yet often it is the only time when one can do so. A person’s schedule can be busy. At some banks, you’re allowed to go inside to use the bank machine, while the rest of the bank is closed off, but be sure to exercise caution under these circumstances too.

Street Safety by Using Common Sense

By Great Wall Defense an Online  Personal Defense Store

Using the streets is often the only way to get around the city, or to get from transit to your workplace, home, or event. While city planning currently tries to design the streets with safety in mind, there are always those criminals who try to take advantage of the woman walking alone. Yet you can’t lock yourself in your closet at home and never come out, as that’s not living at all. There are many ways that you can increase your safety when away from home.

Here are some common sense tips to help you to keep safe while you’re walking between places in your city.

1. Stay in well-lit and busy areas of town. Be knowledgeable about which are the bad (high crime) parts of town. These trouble spots are often in regions where office workers must go past in order to get home at night. These are areas with few houses, apartments, open businesses, with the exception of seedy nightclubs or bars where you can almost always find trouble.

2. It’s best to try not to carry a purse at all, but if you do, don’t wrap the purse straps around your wrist. Some police authorities recommend that you don’t wrap your purse around your body either, as that can also cause injury in the event of a purse snatching. Keep your purse close to your body, but place your valuables such as a wallet, car keys, house keys, cell phone in your pockets or other specialized hideaway product. That way if you are robbed or if your purse is snatched, you won’t lose anything of real value. You could even put a personal pepper spray or a powerful stun gun some where on your person just in case things got rough.

3. Always bring only what you need for that day. You do not need to bring every single credit card you own, or large sums of  money that can get you hurt or worse. Resist the urge to pack everything you own in your purse especially not the kitchen sink. Only bring the items that you actually need for work and those extra hours that you are out on the town.

4. Avoid using shortcuts. You may think that you save valuable time or that your risk is lessened when you take a “secret” shorter route home, but you could be exposing yourself to additional dangers. If someone has been watching you for a while, they may be aware of your pattern of habitual routes to get home and may wait there to attack. Dark alleys, open fields, narrow paths, and vacant lots should be avoided. These too are choice areas for criminal types and homeless wanderers to hide and wait for you, the victim to pass by and then strike. In these unpredictable situations and locations, by the time you see the assailant it’s too late.

5. Be aware of other pedestrians and always look around at your surroundings. If you believe you are being followed, you’ll have to try some clever evasive maneuvers. You can quickly cross the street, or even turn back in the direction you came from. This will gauge their reaction to the change you make. If they make the same change in direction then you will be able to decide more accurately whether they were following you or not. If they are following you, find a well-lit place where there are people, such as a corner shop, restaurant, or other business. Avoid heading directly home as you don’t want to let a potential attacker learn where you live. If you have a cell phone with you, call the police if you feel that you are in imminent danger. You can also wave frantically at people’s windows if you are not carrying a personal alarm or alert whistle. You can even act like you are making a call on a cell phone and announce loudly, “I can see your car in the distance. I’ll be there in five minutes.”  This works well when your cell phone is not picking up a signal or your battery is dead.

Often attacks happen when we let our guard down. So don’t let that happen to you. Somehow, the criminals always seem to know when you are at a disadvantage or when you are afraid and not prepared. Never let on  to someone following you that that you are tired, weary or afraid. Walk at a confident pace with a definite purpose in your stride. With a bit of extra care, plan ahead, think on your feet and you’ll most likely see yourself  arriving safely at home.
